Learn how to take great photos of the night sky, including the Milky Way, constellations, galaxies and more!

This will be a two part class - with a pre-event Zoom class as well as an on location class the following month.  

Part 1 - Zoom Class - Gear, setting, apps, and more

Class includes information on suggested apps, recommended stacking and editing software, gear list, suggested camera settings, how to do manual focus for the Milky Way, new moon schedule, how to find dark locations, and more.

Part 2 - On Location
August 18
Location TBD, but will be within 40 mins of SLC
7pm - 12am

This class will focus on getting great Milky Way photos with a scenic foreground.

Location is yet to be confirmed, but currently planned is a canyon location about a 40 minute drive from Salt Lake City. Paved roads, paved parking lot, and real restrooms.

Location features mountains and pine trees for your foreground.

Schedule

• 7 pm Get daytime photos and set up for the evening
• 7:21 pm Golden Hour
• 8:20 pm Sunset
• 8:25-8:49 Blue hour- great time to image your foreground
• 8:49 pm Nautical dusk - Time for any questions
• 9:24 pm Astronomical dusk - Practice getting Milky Way photos
• 10:02 pm Full darkness for best Milky Way photos - Time to do night sky photos
• Midnight - Class ends
