Our approach to success in Art & Business

Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren had separate studios in New York City for twenty years.  Jodi’s work was primarily portraits for magazines and corporations. Steve did a range of work, both in the studio and on location for Advertising, Annual Reports and magazines. In the early 2000’s, they partnered to form what became an extremely successful event photography business.

In this lecture, they will spell out their roadmap for success by both showing the evolution of their work and describing in detail how they built their business’ and the changes they went through over the years to thrive, both individually and then together as a team. They will also go into detail about their business practices.

This lecture is aimed at those who have a passion for photography as well as those full time working photographers who want to up their game.

About Steve Krongard

From Surfers on Australia’s Gold Coast to coal miners in Hokkaido, Steve has traveled the world shooting portraits, landscapes and reportage for a who’s who of the world’s great corporations. His photographs have been seen in many major magazines, as well as numerous Annual Reports and Advertising campaigns. He was selected early in his career along with the top photojournalists in the world to participate in the famed “Day in the Life” series. Those experiences photographing in Australia, China, Japan, The USSR and numerous other countries helped foster his ability to make extraordinary photographs from ordinary situations. His artistic approach is always subject and client centered, not formulaic.

In the early 2000’s, Steve partnered with his wife, the photographer Jodi Buren to form an event photography business. That collaboration led to thousands of assignments photographing Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and other celebrations of life’s milestones.

Over the years, he shared his unique perspective on the art and business of photography with thousands of students in workshops and lectures around the world. He spoke and showed his work at the Hirschorn Museum, as part of the Smithsonian Guest artist series. He taught at The school of Visual Arts and FIT. At the request of the Australian Photographers Association, he made a nationwide TV and radio tour of that nation to help start the process of more copyright protection for that country’s photographers. He served as national president of the Advertising Photographers of America, where he was instrumental in helping to produce the APA Awards Book. He was proud to be one of Canon’s original “Explorers of Light”.

Steve lives in Park City, Utah with his wife, Jodi Buren and their dog, Panda.
